What can I do to help Howard Dean get elected?

Lots of things, even if you've got just ten minutes. Look through the list below and pick an activity that interests you. Some can be done right now, at your home. For all of them, call us if you need help: (617) 320-6989.

1.

Send Dean news articles to your friends
  • All of Dean's news articles on DeanVolunteers.org can be forwarded to your friends and colleagues.
  • Fill in below a keyword that your friends and colleagues are interested in.
  • A search results screen will show several news articles about that topic.
  • Click on one that you think will interest your friends and colleagues.
  • At the bottom of the news article is a form to fill in their e-mail addresses and your message.
  • Spread the word about Dean and we can start a "viral campaign".


 

2.

Come to your local Dean Meetup

  • "Dean Meetups" occur in every state, on the first Wednesday of each month.
  • Click on the Meetup location nearest you in the list below.
  • Sign up on the Meetup.com page that follows.
  • Meetup.com has participants vote on the location for each meeting, which is decided a week before the event (on the last Wednesday of each month).
  • Dean supporters in your area will attend the Meetup, and will leave messages on the meetup.com screen.

3.

Join your local Discussion Group

  • There are "Dean Discussion Groups" in every state and many cities and universities.
  • Click on the Dean Discussion Group or Dean website that suits you best, in the list below.
  • Sign up on the Yahoo.com or MSN.com page that follows.
  • Dean supporters in your area will have messages and local events posted on the Discussion Board or website.

Distribute Dean flyers at Gay Pride rallies

  • Howard Dean is the strongest voice for gay rights of all the presidential candidates.
  • People who attend Gay Pride rallies are a very receptive audience for Dean's message of equal rights regardless of sexual orientation.
  • Download one of the flyers below, adapt it for your state, print it and make copies, and distribute it at Gay Pride rallies in your area.

5.

Write a letter to the editor
    Local newspapers like printing your letters on political issues. We encourage writing a brief letter-to-the-editor that mentions your stance and Howard Dean -- sign your name and town to it, and if it gets published, send a copy to neil@DeanVolunteers.org and we'll post it on the web site.

Recruit students from your local college
    College students are a receptive audience for Howard Dean's ideas.
  • You can write letters-to-the-editor, or place ads, in your local college newspapers, informing students about the local Dean Meetup event, or asking them to attend peace rallies (both of which are listed above).

Sign up as a Grassroots Endorser of Dean
    DeanVolunteers is building a list of Dean endorsers in several categories.
  • Please sign up yourself in categories that apply, and ask your friends and colleagues to sign up also.
  • When the list is sufficiently long, we'll post it on the website and send out a press release to interest-based periodicals in relevant fields.

Grassroots Endorsements: Your name can appear on endorsement lists, which will be provided to Dean For America when a sufficient number in each category is reached. Please check off for the endorsements which apply to you. The lists will show your name, town, and affiliation (not address, e-mail, or phone). 8.

Make calls on your free cell phone minutes
  • Dean for America is currently looking for Dean volunteers with free cell phone minutes to make calls advertising upcoming house parties to local Dean supporters. They supply calling lists and scripts for callers. It only takes about 1-2 hours over a weekend to complete and they can use volunteers from anywhere in the country.

9.

Make an on-line contribution
  • The Dean campaign needs your contribution both to keep the campaign running and to show the press and the pundits that Dean's candidacy is doing well.
  • Click here for the Dean campaign's contribution page.
  • Small amounts are fine -- even $1 helps -- and you can donate up to $2,000.
  • And remember to "Add a Penny for the Internet" -- if you're planning to donate $10.00, make it $10.01 instead, to allow the campaign to track web-based donations and to demonstrate to the press the power of the Internet.

10.

Bumper Stickers and Buttons
  • You can purchase Howard Dean bumper stickers, buttons, T-shirts, hats, and lawn signs at DemStore.com/scstore/Dean/ (allow several weeks for printing and delivery).
  • We will send you one bumper sticker, button, or lawn sign, as long as our personal supply lasts and if you prommise to display it publicly and often. If you send us $1 per piece plus postage, we'll send as many as you want right away.
